Four hours east of Seattle lies the popular vacation destination of Lake Chelan. Surrounded on both sides with beautiful vineyards and tasting rooms, Lake Chelan is a can't-miss Washington wine region.

If it's been a few years since you've visited Lake Chelan, you'll be amazed at the transformation. The hills around this popular lake in central Washington, once planted primarily with orchards, have largely been replanted with vineyards. Over two dozen wineries now surround Lake Chelan, making a wide variety of wine from Gewürztraminer to Pinot Noir. With few exceptions, the tasting rooms all boast impressive views of their estate vineyards and the 50-mile lake below. This is absolutely a wine destination worth making the trip for.

Since opening their tasting room in 2006, Nefarious has build a solid following for their wines, hospitality, and ambiance. Fielding Hills Winery

Just a stone's throw from Nefarious is Fielding Hills Winery.Combining a long, rich history in agriculture with an equally enduring passion for the winemaking process, owner/winemaker Mike Wade and winemaker Tyler Armour produce limited quantities of hand-crafted, premium red, white, and rosé wines. There is plenty of room throughout the tasting room and grounds, so larger groups are easily accommodated with a little advance notice.Overall, Fielding Hills is a great stop to soak in the views and explore a wide variety of Washington wines.

Rocky Pond Winery

Make your way around the lake and into the charming downtown Chelan to visit the beautiful tasting room of Rocky Pond Winery. The founders of Rocky Pond built their home near Chelan and originally planned to plant a few vines to remember their family trips to France and Italy, and the passionate, dedicated winemakers they met there. Before long, they discovered that passion and dedication had become theirs, too. In short time they acquired Clos CheValle and planted their own Double D Vineyard.

The downtown Chelan tasting room features a long tasting bar and plenty of lounge seating to sink in and explore a flight of six wines. It's a beautiful modern tasting environment backed up by delicious, premium Washington wines.

Wines Produced: Sauvignon Blanc, White Blends, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Chardonnay, Viognier, Rosé, Grenache, Red Blends, Syrah

"Very tasty wines. They also have small plates available and several varietals for purchase in bottles. Great atmosphere, dog friendly patio." AZ, Google Review

Cairdeas Winery

Charlie and Lacey Lybecker pull their winemaking inspiration from the Rhône Valley of France. They craft traditional and truly unique blends featuring Washington-grown Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Cinsault, and more. Cairdeas (car-diss), a nod to their heritage, is an Irish Gaelic word meaning friendship, goodwill or alliance. The tasting room is well laid out and allows tasters to easily slip outside to the fire pit or outer lawn for a perfect view of the lake. Like many Chelan wineries, this is a small-family operation where the winemakers are often found pouring the wines themselves.

Wines Produced: Rhône style Red & White Blends, Roussanne, Syrah, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne

"The wine is amazing! The reds are smooth and you'll have a hard time picking your favorite! Our new favorite tasting room!" KP, Google Review

"Charlie and Lacey make you feel like family every time you walk through the door! The wines are varied and excellent in quality." BW, Google Review
